We are already off to a great year, starting with our Fall Family Festival this past weekend, which I hope that many of you were able to enjoy. I would like to extend a big “thank you” to Chris Smith and his team of hard working volunteers. We will be having another family event in February, Family Fun Night.
We have also had a very successful first fundraiser this year, led by Suzanne Flammer, and that was the Kids Go Shopping books that you all received. We raised over three times our goal! It is fundraisers like these and others that we will have throughout the year that help us provide teachers with grants for their classrooms for materials and supplies that are not provided by the district, especially with the budget cuts. The PTO also brings in cultural arts programs that enhance the core curriculum by grade level. We provide the homework planners that all the students use daily, the directory will be coming home shortly, the Holiday Shop will be here in December, Count Down to Kindergarten and the Variety Show to name just a few activities that we are working on.
I have been just overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and willingness to volunteer and help out by many of you. Research shows that children whose parents are involved get better grades and have fewer discipline problems. We encourage everyone one of you to help out where and when you can. It’s not too late to send in your volunteer forms or just contact one of use and let us know you are interested.
We will be having 4 General meeting this year, the first one is on Tuesday, November 10 where we will have a speaker on Recycling Awareness and Tinc Road School Goes Green. This is a new and exciting program that not only helps our environment by teaching our children to recycle responsibly, but also raises money for our school. We will have bins for the juice pouches, tape dispensers and Caps set up in the cafeteria. We will also be doing an electronics and clothing drive through the year. If you have any of these items at home or work, please send them in.
The other meeting topics will be a writer’s workshop, child safety seminar, and transitioning to the middle school. We encourage you all to attend to listen to the speakers as well as keeping up to date on what is going on in the school and the district.
We are looking forward to a great year and if you have any questions please feel free to contact us and visit us on the school website.
Thank you!
