The Basic Skills Improvement Program is designed to provide extra small group instruction in the areas(s) of reading, writing and math skills to students who are determined to have deficits in those areas.  Selection for participation in Basic skills is based on a district and/or state testing, as part of the screening process and teacher recommendation.

The Basic Skills teacher’s objective is to address weaknesses identified by the classroom teacher for students who have qualified for Basic skills instruction based on standardized test scores.  Primarily Basic Skill Instruction should be a reinforcement of skills already presented in the classroom by the classroom teacher.
