Coming to a graduation near you

posted: Tue, May 9th, 2017

The eighth grade graduation ceremony this year will feature a music video of hundreds of eighth-graders and MOMS staff members dancing to Justin Timberlake’s “Can't Stop The Feeling.”

Inspired by a production that principal Susan Miranda saw on YouTube, the music video is being produced by the television students at Mount Olive High School. Chris Praml, t.v. teacher at MOHS, brought along two crews of t.v. students who spent the entire school day on April 27 staging and recording the individual segments. Earlier in the month, the t.v. students spent an entire day recording scenes throughout the community.

“The kids from the high school were amazing in their professionalism and support,” said MOMS teacher Katelin Riggs, who coordinated the production. “It truly felt like I was working with seasoned professionals.”

Shooting with a cast large enough to be in a Cecil B. DeMille epic took intense preparation. Mrs. Riggs spent countless hours planning which students would appear in scenes based on the classes and activities they participate in. Each club, activity, and sport had its own scene and unique location within the building – about 50 in all.

Teachers Kelly Buck, Carly O'Reilly, and Melissa Silvestri choreographed the dance routine. Ms. Buck taught the students; Ms. Silvestri taught staff members.

“So many teachers and students made important contributions,” Mrs. Riggs said. “It was an incredible experience. I think the video will capture the enthusiasm of our building and students as well as show the wide range of clubs and activities that we have. When the video is shown at graduation, it is sure to leave a lasting impression.”
