Mount Olive Middle School welcomed several new staff members this year; here are short profiles on three:

Cara Byrnes (English) – “The quote that has always stuck with me is to ‘Be the change you wish to see in the world,’ said Cara Byrnes. “I hope to help my students find their voice and learn that even though they may be young, they still have to power to impact others and change the world around them.”

Ms. Byrnes received her Bachelor of Arts in English/secondary education from the College of New Jersey and in May earned her master’s in English there.

She has a passion for craft projects and anything outdoors, whether it’s hiking mountains, enjoying the beach, or exploring the concrete jungle of New York City.

Rachel Eby (science) – Rachel Eby brings five years of middle school teaching experience to MOMS. She hold a bachelor’s degree in biology from William Paterson and in December will complete her master's degree in educational administration at Caldwell University.

“I decided to become a science teacher because I love science and wanted to inspire kids to love it too,” she said.

Recently married with a newly arrived little one (a boxer/lab puppy), Ms. Eby loves the great outdoors and spends her free time hiking, kayaking, and biking with her husband.

Victoria Farrell (special education) – Victoria Farrell comes to the middle school from Willowglen Academy, a private alternative school for students in grades 9-12 with varying disabilities.

“Students are on so many different paths with so many different obstacles,” Ms. Farrell said. “I became a special education teacher because I truly believe that with the right guidance, all students will overcome the hurdles and achieve success.”

Ms. Farrell, who holds a bachelor’s in psychology from St. John’s University and her master’s in education from Concordia University, spends most of her time outside of work with her son who just entered the fourth grade.  She also enjoys reading and watching movies. An animal lover with a dog and two cats, Ms. Farrell is also involved in various animal charities.
