Child Abuse and Neglect

As stated in our policy, the Board of Education will cooperate with state government and the Division of Child Protection and Permanency (DCP&P) in the identification and reporting of cased of child abuse and/or neglect in accordance with the law.

"Child abuse" means the infliction of harm, physical, mental, or emotional, on a child under the age of eighteen by a person who has control of that child, even temporarily, and an opportunity to repeat the abusive acts. Neglect includes negligence and the failure to respond to a child's basic needs as well s deliberate, willfully abusive acts. (N.J.S.A. 18A: 36-24 and 18A: 36-25)
