Mount Olive/Seton Hall University Articulation Program Project Acceleration

Since 1978, Project Acceleration, a concurrent enrollment program within the College of Arts and Sciences at Seton Hall University, has allowed high school students in New Jersey and New York to get a head start on their university careers. Over the course of their high school career, students can earn up to 22 credits from Seton Hall University for approved courses taken in their secondary schools. Subjects include mathematics, computer science, biology, chemistry, physics, economics, psychology, political science, sociology, history, communication, English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Latin, Greek, Japanese, music, art, and education. The college credits earned through Project Acceleration are accepted at more than 200 colleges and universities. There are currently 70 high schools offering Project Acceleration courses and approximately 3000 students participate each year.

Who can participate?
Project Acceleration courses are open to high school juniors and seniors in good academic standing who are capable of performing Advanced Placement (AP) or Honors coursework. Once registered, students must earn a grade of C (2.0 grade point average) or better in their Project Acceleration courses in order to receive Seton Hall University credit and to continue in the program. A grade of "D" or "F" will result in a student's termination from the program without being awarded credits.

Sophomores must receive approval from the Seton Hall Director of Project Acceleration prior to registering.  The high school must contact the Project Acceleration office for instructions at (973) 761-9224 prior to submitting sophomore registration for approval.

Registration Procedures
Students should consult their instructors for further information about a course's registration requirements; which includes understanding the length of time the course will run during any academic year.  Some courses are sequential, requiring registration and payment in both fall and spring semesters if students wish to receive credit for both semesters of the course. High school officials are encouraged to inform students of the courses that are available at their academic location.

Tuition
Tuition for Project Acceleration courses is $75 per credit hour. (Regular tuition at New Jersey colleges ranges from $300 - $1,000 per credit hour.)  A three credit course is $225.00.  Checks should be made payable to Seton Hall University. Include the student's name on the tuition check and staple it to the first page of the registration form. Students should return both the check and the registration form to the high school Project Acceleration teacher. Students should work with their high school official to get the correct high school registration code

Withdrawal
Students may withdraw from the course and receive a refund of their tuition during the registration period only if they notify both their high school teacher and the Project Acceleration office in writing by the withdrawal deadline: October 22 (Fall); March 11 (Spring).  An e-mail must be sent to the Project Acceleration office at projectacceleration@shu.edu.

Attending Seton Hall:
Students who choose to attend Seton Hall University for their undergraduate education will automatically receive academic credit toward their undergraduate degree for their Project Acceleration courses as long as the student received a grade of "C" or better. These students need to inform their academic advisors of these credits before they register as freshmen. If a student has decided on a major, it is recommended to also check with the appropriate department chairperson.

Transferring Credits
All accepting institutions require the receipt of an official Seton Hall transcript. The majority of college institutions require a grade of "C" or better. Students who plan to attend other colleges or universities should contact their institution's Admissions or Registrar's Office in order to determine their policy. Since policies do change suddenly, we strongly suggest all students inquire at the university/college of their choice.  Seton Hall cannot guarantee that every course will be accepted by every institution.  Students must request an official transcript from Seton Hall to have the credits transferred.  It is also recommended that an unofficial transcript be requested by the student for record keeping purposes.

Please Note:
Public Institutions in New Jersey:
1986 Assembly Act No. 138 directed the New Jersey Department of Higher Education to establish a program to provide courses for college credit on public high school campuses to high school pupils, through institutions of higher education in this State. This Act states, "A public institution of education shall accept pursuant to standards established by the chancellor, the course credit of a student who successfully participates in the program." Students may still be required to submit a transcript.
