Flexible Learning Action Plan

The implementation of flexible learning into our school will focus on students having choices within their academic day.  One aspect of flexible learning is pace. The pace of the classes can be flexible with the utilization of technology to incorporate online materials, blend the learning, and enhance the level of learning. Students will be in charge of time management to meet the goals of the class that they are in charge of setting.

The introduction of flexible learning requires a collaborative approach by students, teachers, and the school district. Each individual student must take responsibility for their own learning and act upon opportunities that are given to them. The teaching staff will have a duty to manage the learning process, whereas previously their role was to provide materials. As for the school district, it is their obligation to build flexible systems where choice is at the forefront so that quality learning experience take place.

Our flexible learners will work to adapt to change when given choices of online, face-face, or blended learning opportunities. The learners will personalize their instructional program by making choices which will assist them in increasing their learning opportunities and accessing a quality education. The plan moving forward will have many layers of implementation and various component to allow for learner success. To start, our content will be problem based so that students can operate at different levels of learning in their quest for success.  Within the problem based situation, students will communicate in different formats, including online chat both local and global, to broaden their discourse. Teaching and learning methods will be individualized, collaborative, and metacognitive to assist the learner in deepening their understanding and optimizing their level of responsibility. Assessments will be encouraged to show the student’s achievement, and this is not only taking place summatively, but in formative evaluations throughout the process of knowledge attainment.

It is our plan to change the pedagogical framework in which our students work to allow for learner empowerment, future-facing education where students address complex problems that are viewed from various perspectives, and work toward positive change when solving the said problem. Furthermore, we will decolonize our education so that our students understand global and local connections. Throughout the process of engagement, the students will be transformative and critically reflect where they are in their learning and what needs to be done to take them where they want to go. Interdisciplinary units of study will cross the boundary of education to assist our learners in making connections far beyond their original imagination.

The ability to modify and adjust the way that our students access knowledge will help them to navigate the ever changing world of the 21st century.
