The MOMS Junior Winds ensemble earned a silver rating at the North Jersey School Music Association's Junior High School Band Festival.
At the festival, held at West Essex High School, the group performed two songs: “Danse Carnival,” a tribute to the Hungarian Dances of the 1800s with shifting tempos, and “A Joyful Journey,” an expressive tune with sections of quiet reflection and soaring themes of pride and triumph.
On April 18, the group also performed with the Montclair State University Campus Band here at MOMS. Its next performance will be at Mount Olive High School’s band concert on May 23.
Junior Winds, directed by music teachers Ken Adessa and Melany McQueeny, meets afterschool once per week and is comprised of about 45 students who auditioned to become part of the ensemble.
