Dear Parents  Next week is the national Week of Respect (October 2nd - October 6th). Two weeks later is School Violence Awareness and Prevention Week (October 16th – 20th) and the remainder of the month is celebrated by Red Ribbon Week (October 23rd – 31st). In honor of these three very important weeks, we have exciting events going on at Mountain View! The 5th graders are announcing "Good Character" quotes each morning on our school PA system, along with recognizing our top achieving students in Math 24. Beginning next week, each grade level will be participating in various activities relating to respect, kindness and bully-prevention. I will be visiting all classrooms this month to talk about these very important topics, concluding with all students signing a Pledge of Respect. I encourage you to have a discussion with your child about the meaning of respect, as well as various ways to show kindness and compassion for others on a daily basis.

We will celebrate Week of Respect with a school-wide Spirit Week (October 2nd - October 6th). Each day will be celebrated by a themed clothing. Please encourage your child to participate, as this is a school-wide event. Please look on the reverse side of this paper for the daily theme!
On Friday, October 27th, Mountain View will participate for the 2nd time in the international campaign, Mix it up Day at Lunch. We will be encouraging students to move out of their comfort zones and sit with someone new, or from a different grade during lunch. It's something simple that could make a big difference! Studies have shown that such a small change can bring students together and lessen the number of problems that can occur between them. By celebrating this day, we hope to build upon our community where students can celebrate their similarities and differences, and make new friends.
A friendly reminder that on Halloween, NO masks are allowed and no full-face make-up is permitted. As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns about the Week of Respect, your child, or the Mountain View Counseling Program. Thank you in advance for your participation and support!

Sincerely,
